Hon Joseph Mucheru

Hon Joseph Mucheru, EGH is the current Kenyan Cabinet Secretary at the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology. Formerly, he was the Africa lead for Google Sub-Saharan Africa based in Nairobi. He was Google’s first Sub-Saharan Africa employee and was key to the setting up of Google’s presence in Africa from 2007. Before joining Google, he worked at Wananchi Online (currently Zuku), a company he co-founded in 1999, where he held various roles at the company including Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He attended the Stanford Executive Programme at Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 2008. He holds a BSc (joint honours) in Economics and Computer Science from City University in London. In recognition of his distinguished services rendered to the nation, he was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) in December 2010. He was later awarded the Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH) in December 2016 by the President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta.
